Learning to program in Delphi requires first of all knowledge and understanding of the programming language Pascal, then skill in applying this knowledge to create imperative style programs that solve problems effectively. Secondly, it requires a knowledge and understanding of Object Pascal, then the skill to create object-oriented style programs that solve problems effectively. Thirdly. it requires a knowledge and understanding of event-driven programming which relies upon the message loop to handle events, then skill in creating programs that use an event-driven approach to solve problems effectively.
Delphi 7 to Delphi XE5 and Delphi 10.2 are covered. Several chapters are devoted to explaining how to create mobile and tablet apps in Delphi XE5.
Delphi now supports functional programming. The reader will be introduced to the functional style of programming and the support that exists within Delphi for this style of programming.
